The title Musica Moderna makes sense here because that really was the term that the first composers for the theorbo used to apply to their ideas back at the beginnings of the 1600s. This was an innovative instrument —even a modernist one— with which plucked-string world crossed the threshold into the Baroque era. With his third recording for Enchiriadis, Rafael Bonavita puts on a dazzling show, drawing from music by the three great founding fathers for this revolutionary instrument.
