The Madrid-based label carries on celebrating, in music, the four hundredth
anniversary of El Quijote, providing for us an intelligent selection
of villancicos, canciones and romances from around 1600. Musica Ficta, the group
led by Raúl Mallavibarrena – who is also the driving force of Enchiriadis
– shows us once again how it moves with the same consummate ease in secular
music as it does in sacred polyphony, until now the group’s clearest specialism.
