The Cembalo Concertos BWV 1052 – 1056 from J. S. Bach presented here were presumably written in the year 1738. One important feature of the four harpsichord concerts is that a majority of its movements are revisions (i.e. parodies) of other compositions. Bach, who as one of the first composers at all used the harpsichord as concert solo instrument, enters the crossroads between classical general bass and the establishment of the piano as concert instrument, which was to become the most favoured solo concert instrument until the end of the 18th century. Francesco Cera is greatly admired as a performer for his extensive knowledge of styles and different musical expressions and particularly well-known for his performances of 17th century harpsichord and organ music. In the present recording he is accompanied by the renown ensemble "I Barocchisti", which commits itself to the performance of forgotten baroque works.
