BAROQUE / VOCAL RECITAL ( 1 CD )

The chamber cantata has been the vocal genre most practiced by Scarlatti. The shortened dimensions of these compositions for voice and small ensemble allow the Neapolitan composer to get deep inside the dramatic possibilities of this secular texts dealing with passions, as this most delicious selection proves. Here Scarlattian inspiration abandons the mere acrobatic virtuosism to indulge in an expressive but well-measured writing, furnished with archaic manners and ingenious musical details. María Espada takes the lead wih her most charming and sensuous voice, here enhanced by Forma Antiqua’s expert playing.
