Gaudí, an opera by Joan Guinjoan with libretto by Josep Maria Carandell, is based on the personal and artistic biography of Antoni Gaudí. The music is respectful of the demands of opera as a genre and explains a story of conflict by means of monologues, duos and trios, with the presence of a choir and a corps de ballet, with careful attention to the treatment of voice and melody, and accompanied by a large symphony orchestra, all with the aim of achieving coherence with the composer’s personal style. The opera Gaudi was commissioned by the Cultural Olympiad in 1992.
