The two hundredth anniversary of Carl Loewe’s birth was celebrated in 1996, and cpo took this occasion as an opportunity to offer this composer a comprehensive homage in the form of a complete edition of his song and ballad oeuvre – which reveals itself as a genuine cosmos of grand dramatic creations and enchanting genre miniatures. Twenty-one volumes were released in this edition through 2007, and Cord Garben, its prime mover and congenial piano accompanist, gathered a of world-famous singers (see below) around him.
