Joan Comellas was one year younger than Xavier Montsalvatge and two years older than Carlos Surinach, these three composers were in great part the Catalan contribution the era post Manuel de Falla, and the school left by Albeniz and Granados. More than following strict forms of the baroque suite or the classical assumption of the sonata form, the voice / piano pieces herein contained are evocative of the French Impressionistic school and the Catalonian culture of those times more than simple, decadent echoes.
